External HDD's

Hi all, my question is, i have just purchased a WD My Book Studio 2TB and have connected via FW800 and was thinking of using it as my movie and photo storage, i already have around 80GB of said files on my Mac HDD and would like to take it from there and onto the external (which will be backed up by a further external HDD!) Is there a way of doing this and informing iPhoto/iMovie etc to look at those locations so i can still view all of my files?
