External mic feedback/playback

hi im using an external headset for my macbook pro. im trying to mute the feedback/playback coming from the mic. i know on a pc there is mute button for playback on the mic. i think its called what you hear? something along those lines. ive been searching the web for answers but cant seem to find it. any help is appreciated. thank you.
