I've recently been successful in wiring up an electret mic to my iPad through the audio jack, and adding a pushbutton to short the microphone pin to ground to simulate the centre button on the Apple headphone remote.
When I connect it up to a MacBook Pro or Air running OSX Mavericks, the microphone is not detected, but the computer says (in System Preferences > Sound) that headphones are connected, despite nothing being connected to the L and R channels. The Apple headphones work fully on both, though (as they should), so pin configuration doesn't seem to be the problem here. Is there something I'm missing? My goal is to connect the mic up through the audio jack as I did with the iPad and similar to how the Apple headphones work.
Thanks.
