External monitor adjusting MacBook screen brightness?

I just got a mini-DVI to VGA adapter for my MacBook so I can use my 17-inch Apple Studio Display as a second display. I've noticed that every time I plug in or unplug my Studio Display my MacBook's screen brightness gets set to the highest setting. This is really annoying me as I usually have my screen brightness set down a few steps. Any idea how I can fix this problem?
 
Nobody has any idea why this is happening? If I boot up my MacBook with the lid closed and my external display connected, my MacBook display brightness isn't changed when I unplug the external display. I'm thinking I just might have found another bug in Leopard. What's the easiest way of reporting it?
 
I would also like to know why it goes to full brightness and how to stop it.
Its not a bug in leopard because it did this in tiger aswell.
