external monitor and heat

I have a 19" Dell monitor that I want to use with my mbp. I have plugged it in a few times and it seems like the computer runs a lot hotter with both screens running. Is this normal? It seems like it would be considering it must work harder to output to 2 screens.

Exactly. The GPU will run hotter.

That said, the overall temps on my MBP only go up marginally when it's hooked up to my 23" Cinema Display. However, I do increase the fan speed via SMCfancontrol.
