External monitor - Any reason why this wouldn't work?

Hey,
After having many problems with 2 different Dell U2711 monitors connected to my macbook pro 15" late 2008 (thats 1 monitor, didn't work, replaced, still didn't work - luckily i got a full refund!), i'm looking at different options.
I've come across a new Samsung monitor, Samsung S27A850D, and was wondering if this would work with the same MDP to DP cable that i used on the Dell?
Anyone know if this would/wouldn't work?

Take your MDP shopping with you, and try connecting in-store.

i don't know of any local stores with it in, and all the problems with my dells arose between about 10 - 30 minutes of use, which i don't really want to do in a shop

Have you looked at its specs? Samsung only lists a DVI connector for inputs.

There is a displayport connecter too - http://www.samsung.com/sg/consumer/...dex.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=specification

Switch it to table view to get more specs, DP is DisplayPort
