External monitor changes resolution when closing lid of MacBook

I am setting my my new MacBook, and this time around I'm using a 27" LG 4K external monitor with it. I notice whenever I close the lid, the monitor does stay on (as I wanted it to) however the resolution changes...and then it changes back again when the lid is re-opened. Is there a way to have the monitor resolution not change when the lid of the MacBook is closed? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

UPDATE: I figured out how to resolve this!
