External monitor does not display picture.

I have a thunderbolt to vga adapter that plugs a external monitor into my 13in 2011 macbook pro.

My mac detect the display and allows me to connect to it.

I am able to drag items to the external monitor except the monitor does not display the picture.

The monitors display works because when i turn it on the monitor says "NO SIGNAL"

The monitor does not seem to recognize my mac.

Any suggestions on a way to fix this.
