due to limit of cash, I do not wish to spend £899 for a thunderbolt display, can anybody help me out here by suggesting me a cheaper/good alternative please? (£600-)

I will be using it for primarily for photo editing and probably watching some movies.

What's Your Budget?

It will make it easier for folks to offer alternatives. The Thunderbolt display is over-priced IMO, so you are wise to be looking at alternatives...

Thought I have edited the budget in the post before  mmm.. but anyway it's there now, I am looking for one with the same 2560x440 as the thunderbolt display

I know my self and a few others on here bought the Dell UltraSharp. Its IPS and has awesome reviews.

I paid $299 ($100 off) for the 24" its on sale right now.

Go to your dell site!

You won't find a 2560x1440 for much less than the Apple display. It's actually fairly well-priced for a display of that resolution. Dell and HP both make 27" high-res displays, but don't expect substantial savings.

If you can suffer lower resolution, then I'd suggest Dell's 24" Ultrasharp display. Dell makes solid displays, and they're well-priced (and often on sale!). There are also several good 1920x1080 27" displays available. Again, not the same resolution as the Apple display, but good, big displays nonetheless.

they were 299 I think it ended yesterday

I don't think the thunderbolt display is overpriced the dell 27" IPS with similar specs is 899 and for the 100 bucks its well worth the thunderbolt features

i've recently purchased 2 x Dell U2312HM and found it to be really good other that the fact that apple does not support horizontal spanning. :(

Which Dell UltraSharp are you referring to? There are several on Dell's website and none of them are priced at $299.

It was $100 off until today :(

For some reason in Canada (where im from) its still on sale for $299

Call them..I bet they will do it still.

Thanks for the info; it's only $339 so that isn't too much more than $299.

Unfortunately, I just noticed that the display has an LED backlight. I've had some problems adjusting to LED, so I think that I will be sticking with CCFL as long as they are still available...
