External Monitor for Veiwing

Good Day Folks,

I am using a Canon Vixia HF M30, and was wondering if I am able to connect an external monitor, for viewing while I am recording? I am doing a step by step instructional video, and would like to have a monitor I can look at while I am recording. I looked through the manual, and noticed there is a HDMI out, but not sure if that's only for playback.
