I just received from MonoPrice a mini displayport to VGA adapter but I'm having some issues with it. I have my external monitor, granted its about 5 years old, powered up and connected to the adapter then I plug the adapter into my MBP. The MBP screen turns blue as if it is recognizing a new display; however, it just comes back to normal and the external display isn't recognized.

I have a mini displayport to HDMI adapter that I use with my TV for movies and what not which works great...I'm wondering is there anything extra that I need to make the VGA adapter work?

The monitor works fine with my old dell so I know its not the VGA cable or the monitor. The MBP recognizes the adapter so I'm assuming the adapter is fine....is there anything else I'm missing?

Thanks for any help

Maybe it is because my monitor is so old or not up to par with what the macbook needs to use for an external monitor?

Are there special specs my external monitor needs to meet to be us with my 2011 MBP?
