External Monitor Question

Hi,

I am very ignorant about Monitors and Laptops working together.

I have a MBA 1280*800 and a windows laptop 1376*768. I saw a Acer Monitor 23" 1920*1200 resolution.

But both my laptops don't have that resolution, when I connect the said / similar external monitor would I be able get 1920*1200 resolution ? or my laptops resolution is the max that I can get from the monitor even though the monitor is capable of higher resolutions.

Any help clarifying this would be great.

They support the higher 1920x1200 resolution.
