I have a macbook pro and have had an external monitor plugged in the side of it and all of a sudden the external monitor quit and says cannot display this video mode. Optimum resolution 1280 by 1024. How can i fix this or how can i delete the external one off the displays preferences under system preferences? Please Help this is really annoying.

External monitor quit working

Just have the Display preference pane "Detect Displays". You can then reconnect and it should reset to the optimal setting. Also, are you connecting via DVI or VGA?
