So, I've recently been connecting my MacBook Pro to a TV via HDMI and an HDMI adapter. When attempting to launch a game in fullscreen, the external monitor will turn black. I was wondering if there was a way I could prevent this from happening.

What game?

You'll probably have to contact the developer and ask them nicely to fix the bug (I do consider blanking 2nd screens without the option to turn it off a bug).

The unfortunate aspect of that solution is that I am playing the Mac beta for LoL. I guess you answered my question on whether it was the games fault. However, the fact that the game is in beta form, as well as it is a closed beta, I can;t expect to receive a fix for that bug anytime soon.

Frontrow and most media players do this
