External Monitor

I have a quick question concerning my Macbook pro.

When I hook up an external monitor to the DVI output, and use both the macbook screen, and the external, the display on the external is blurry, and not very sharp. However, when I close the macbook, and run it in clamshell mode, the external becomes very clear, and crisp(like it should).

Since I am a Macbook newbie, I'm curious if this is normal. I never use dual monitors, so this really isn't a problem, but want to know if its normal.

You have to adjust the resolution of the external display/monitor via System Preferences > Displays > Display.

There will be one window with resolution options on your MB's display and one window of resolution options on your external display, if you have switched off the Mirror Display Mode in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement.

20" to 22" monitors with the 16:10 aspect ratio usually have around 1680x1050 pixel, 24" displays 1920x1200.

Look into the monitor's manual to find out the best resolution.
