I am trying to view playback from Final Cut Pro (ver 6) on an external monitor, but have had no success whatsoever, and am seeking some assistance.

I have a late 2012 iMac, and have tried two different methods of outputting a signal to an external monitor:

1 - To a Sony Bravia HDTV using:
Thunderbolt to HDMI cable

2 - To an old Sony CRT video monitor using a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter, and a HDMI to RCA cable, and plugged in to the back of the monitor using an RCA to BNC adapter.

None of these methods have worked and am hoping someone can offer some other suggestions?
Thanks!

External Monitoring using Fcp 6

not selecting Digital Cinema Desktop Preview - Full Screen under the Playback menu is exactly what didn't work. Now that I have selected it I can get my playback up on the Sony Bravia.

Cheers
