I've been continually have sporadic issues with my September '08 era (pre uni-body) MBP in regards to my external USB mouse and keyboard. This happens when I wake from sleep. At first, the mouse and/or keyboard will work fine, but within 30 seconds or so, one or the other (usually not both at the same time) will stop working. 80% of the time or so if I unplug my hub that they're plugged into and plug it back in to the MBP's right USB port, they will start working again. About 20% of the time, it will either not work or it'll work for another 30 seconds to 2 minutes and then stop working again at which point it's less likely that it will work if I unplug it and plug it in again. Meanwhile, the trackpad is still working fine.

However, tonight when it happened, I was in the middle of transferring a Handbrake movie encode to my PowerMac (which is the server for my whole house audio/video system based off two AppleTVs and an Airport Express) when it happened and the transfer stopped at the same time the mouse stopped working and Leopard complained that it lost the network connection and couldn't complete the transfer. I checked the PowerMac and all is well on its side (it couldn't hardly be more stable under Tiger unless I run Photoshop for too many hours without quitting and restarting it once in awhile; otherwise it'll eventually trash the memory somehow and cause a kernel panic; quitting every hour or so and restarting completely avoids this problem somehow by releasing the memory).

So basically, there is SOME kind of bug happening on the MBP in regards to the external mouse and keyboard that seems directly related to waking from sleep, but it's odd that it happens like 30 seconds AFTER waking up or thereabouts instead of instantly. And every so often it'll "wake" to a kernel panic instead of coming up at all (usually after it falling asleep after numerous Handbrake encode/sleep/wake/encode again type cycles).

Anyone else experience similar issues? I've read about some people having problems with the trackpad after waking from sleep, but not specifically external mice and keyboards like that. The network twist seems to tell me more is going on than just the external peripherals as well. I've got Leopard on my PowerMac, but I rarely use it since Tiger is faster so I'm not sure if it's just Leopard or just Leopard on Intel or just on this model (or just mine?) Macbook Pro.
