I have posted this in another forum but got no replies. I am hoping somebody’s Mac Mini behaves the same way and can help.

After Installing Monterey my external player doesn't mount anymore. I insert the disc (be it DVD or Blu-ray), the player starts spinning the disc, makes the usual noises, and then, when it should start spinning faster, it just winds down.
Everything worked OK on the previous operating systems. I have checked the cables, switched to different ports, to no avail. The player is connected to a USB A port through a hub.
Since the hardware is the same, I am assuming it might be a software issue?

What happens if you plug it DIRECTLY into the Mini?
(not "through a hub")

I should have done that. It works when I plugged it directly. What a coincidence, though. It all happened when I installed Monterey.

Here is an article from Cult of MacSome users say that while there USB-C hub is detected and most ports work as intended, USB 3.0 ports supposedly aren’t seen by macOS.

macOS Monterey won’t play nicely with USB-C peripherals

“My USB-C hub has issues with this update,” wrote Flyersny81 on Reddit. “The HDMI port connected to my second screen is working on the hub but none of the USB3 ports are working at all.

“Had a call with Apple support and they said to try an Apple certified hub. I used this one I had floating around in my bag and both the HDMI and USB3 ports worked on it. I tried to daisy chain the Amazon hub to the Apple hub but that didn’t work either.”

Others are seeing weirder glitches, with many saying that their power delivery ports no longer work properly, and others reported issues with external USB-C monitors that include additional connectivity options.

“Same problem as everyone, bought 34″ Philips 346P1CRH/00 and everything worked fine on BigSur,” wrote lenskdav. “After updating to Monterey, the video and ethernet works, but power supply is cut off. I’m on an M1 Macbook Air.”

The issues have been documented on Reddit, on Apple’s Support Communities forum, and on Apple’s Developer Forums, according to MacRumors.

Rather a sad state of things as Apple has become akin to Microsoft over the years. So many not quite working things released into the public and this is an obvious case of M1 challenges as well as Monterey where connectivity issues have been occurring. There has been a long ongoing bout with some monitors not working well with M1 and sadly Apple doesn't give a ... to go acknowledge and fix or give makers of monitors information that may be useful to fix a few serious issues.

M1 Mini 512/16, BenQ PD2700U, Caldigit Element. I opted to direct connect the Mini to the monitor, Use the Caldigit for both storage devices as well as USB connection to my Peachtree Speakers. My only real challenge has been just a handful of odd things happening with the monitor.
