I'm looking for an external screen for my 2013 15" Retina and don't have the funds for a thunderbolt.

Would I be able to use 2560x1440 when it's not a thunderbolt?

And what screen would you recommend?

First post here! :)

Kinds regards,
Peter from Denmark

You can use any 2560x1440 with mini displayport (plug it into the thunderbolt port on your macbook) or if you have a rMBP you could use the HDMI port too. (I'd get still get a monitor with displayport)
HDMI 1.4 used on the rMBP supports up to 4k but only at 30/24Hz

Recommendations depend on how much you want to spent.

Thanks!

Was thinking about something along the price range like the Dell Ultrasharp u2713hm.
