External Screen Issues

I have a new macbook air 13" and the local apple reseller sold to me a BENQ EW2430 as an external screen in clamshell mode. The resolution is poor and I will return it. Is this because of the 16:9-16:10 issue? Can anyone recommend an external screen which retains the macbook air's resolution?
