Hi,

A few guys I know have external 2.5" usb drive enclosures that on most computers recieve enough power from the usb port to run.

However when they get plugged into my PB 1.5ghz, they don't have enough power to run.

Is this a common thing/and or can anyone recommend a external drive enclosure that does work OK without a seperate AC power requirement?

cheers

Is the PowerBook plugged in? I think it supplies less power to the USB/FireWire ports when running on battery power to extend the battery runtime.

Same thing happened to me...

I had a 12" Rev C and my portable hard drive worked fine.

When i got my 15" Rev D, the hard drive didn't have enough power..
Same goes with my 15" Rev A Al PB ... not enough power..

Kinda sucks... have to resort to firewire..

Did you try the other USB port? I seem to remember hearing somewhere that one port is better powered than the other. I could be wrong though.

One options is a powered hub, but that may defeat the purpose of no AC adapter.

Yup.. tried both ports.. even tried pluggin in the external power(which is also a usb port) in ... so both usb ports plug in... still not enough juice..

USB hub with a/c adapter does defeat the purpose.. so that's a no go..
