Firstly I'd like to say I have searched google and the forums and can't find anything which helps with my problem...

I have jus bought X540 5.1 Logitech Speakers and have been playing them through the headphone slot on the macbook and using the matrix mode to make it 5.1 surround sound but I was told by using an external sound card I could get better quality sound..

So I bought a Sound Blaster Surround Sound 5.1 card from creative: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Creative-70S...pr_product_top

I can't figure out how to get the macbook to recognize it and play music through my speakers? I've plugged the 3 plugs from the back of the subwoofer into the soundcard at the back like it says and I've plugged in the USB to the mac...

Am I missing something? The mac just continues to play from the macbook speakers...

What do I need to do??

Cheers in advance.

Looks like the link isn't working. Anyway, I think you may need drivers for OS X to detect the sound card. I've never used USB sound cards, just the headphone jack so I may be wrong. Have you checked the specifications for the sound card?

What about going into System Preferences>Sound and looking at the output tab. Maybe you need to select the where you want the sound to come out.

Thank you so much... I knew it was something stupid!!

I hadn't selected it from the sound menu in system preferences. I hate it when you don't even think of something that small because you think it must be something really technical.

Thank you again :)
