I used my old SSD just fine inside my old MacBook Pro and also external on said MacBook Pro (2012).
However, my "new" MacBook Pro (14 Inch) refuses to recognise it. In fact, the drive does not even seem to get any power.

This morning it randomly would connect just fine, like nothing ever happened but now it appears "dead" again. I was even able to format it earlier.

Has anyone else had similar issues?

edit: I just connected it to my Dell computer from work and it is immediately powered on!

I had a similar issue. My external SSD had power and lit up but wasn’t recognized and didn’t show up in Disk Utility. I changed the cable and it worked perfectly fine. Weird!

I have a Samsung T-3 and Crucial 2 TB SSDs attached to my Studio (formerly on my M1 mini) and have had no problems with them. I've used other Crucial SSDs with no problems. I've also used these on my M1 Pro MacBook Pro as well.

Try switching the USBc cable around, end-for-end.
(really, try it)
