Now that I've started running backups, I'm down to about 6GB free (out of 900) on my G5. As such, I'm in desperate need of additional storage.

As much as I'd like an XServe RAID, it's completely outside my price range (plus, it's way more than I need.) However, I do like the idea of a rack-mountable and expandable storage architecture. Convieniently, I came across this. It looks like exactly what I'm looking for - a rack-mountable, expandable external storage architecture. I can buy it through NewEgg for $518 shipped, and by the time I add a few 400GB drives it's more cost-effective than LaCie external drives.

I have a couple concerns, though. First off, I can only seem to find the USB 2.0 model. Although Norco's website says they make a FireWire model, I can't seem to find it anywhere. Will USB 2.0 be fast enough for video editing? (I should note I'm using FireWire 400 for video editing at the moment, and it's working just fine.)

Also, I've never heard of Norco or the DS-1200 before, and I can't seem to find any reviews. I'm wondering if I should be concerned about the quality of the product - after all, data loss is a bad thing!

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advice!
