Which are the best mac compatible firewire hard drives?

I'm looking for one that is ready-built and is likely to last me a good few years.

I haven't got a price range but I'd rather not pay much more than $300.

I'm looking ideally for a 640gb one to back up the internal MBP 320gb one. However, I'm open to suggestions of larger drives or smaller ones that are over 320gb should any exist.

whta you mean mac compatible? all HD are mac compatible. I say buy an external case and then spend as much as you can on a HD to put in it tahst whta i did, i got 500gb wiht enclosure and taxes in for less than 100 bucks

I'd rather it pre-built, I've had bad experiences handling hardware before so messing with the drive is something I'd rather not do.

By mac compatible I mean one that uses file systems that OS X can read. But I suppose I could format them myself.

oh okay, then look up for some Lacie ones are pretty good, iOmega has been making some good stuff too, even though they look so cheap.

oh and yeah you will most likely have to reformat any drive that you buy, they usually come in ntsf format takes 2 minutes to reformat on disk utility

p.s: i know you dind tw nat to mess around with the drive and all but just so you kow,, all the messing around is usually:
-remove plastic bag
-slide drive into enclosure
-secure it with two little screws the enclosures comes with
-close the top lid
-plug in usb cable and you are on your way....

You can get the following external drives both made for windows and mac.
Western Digital MyBook
Seagate FreeAgent (or any external really)
Lacie externals
Maxtor
Any external drive from OWC (macsales.com)

I've seen a few recommendations for LaCie on here but on product sites they seem to only get 3 stars and mixed reviews.

E.g. http://www.amazon.com/LaCie-Extreme-External-Interface-300797U/dp/B000AY8DF0
