I am looking to buy an external USB drive so I can record cd's for playing in the car and am looking for recommendations please. UK - thanks

Pretty much anything should work. I got a Memorex unit when my Apple superdrive started eating DVD's (ugh). LG makes a number of different external DVD burners, and there are plenty of other brands. For your usage, I don't think you need to be especially picky.

Thanks, the thing is I have an Apple superdrive but it plays up, sometimes it writes disks, then it writes a couple of tracks and freezes. It also plays up and I can't eject the disk. I'm sending it back to Amazon for a refund, and don't feel inclined to spend so much on another drive.

DO NOT buy Apple's SuperDrive. It's overpriced and underwhelming.

Instead, look for a 3rd-party USB DVD/CD burner. You should be able to find something for $30+/-. You might want to consider a drive that burns "M-DISCs", as well.

I happen to like Samsung burners.
The one I have is actually a BluRay/DVD/CD burner ("506" series).
They cost more, however.

Samsung make a nice small usb dvd drive which we buy in at work for like £13.

samsung are great plus they will work with android tablets/tv boxes too (just not with commecial discs only ur own in android)

I have this. The pricing must fluctuate some, as mine was $24. I've not had any issues with it over what I would guess to be around 3-ish years of ownership, and it gets the job done. (Obviously, like other DVD burners, it won't work properly if plugged into an unpowered hub - but it works fine when plugged into a powered USB hub.)
