Anyone have any external usb 3.0 enclosure recommendations?

Something that actually supports SATA 3?

Since I have upgraded machines, and my 2009 cMBP keyboard has been acting up, i'm thinking about taking my 256GB Samsung 840 Pro out, and throwing it in an external enclosure… or just selling the 840 Pro on Craigslist for $120ish, since I already have a 500GB External HDD, that is more than enough for me.

No use in letting something sit around if i'm not going to use it. (I rarely use my 500GB External HDD.. Maybe 6 times a year?)

Are harddrive speeds even fast enough these days to take advantage of a USB 3.0 connection?

Edit: never mind, I didn't catch the Samsung 840 part, lol

I would strongly suggest you read Barefeats net site and look at the Firmtek solution for USB 3 for 2.5" drives. It beats out the competition and in some cases, Thunderbolt.

I have one of these and it works extremely well.

Thanks! Looks like a quality product, and has great speeds, but $100 for something I may never use.. Hmmm

I may just post the 840 Pro on Craigslist for $140 and see if anyone bites.

Do what works best for you. I find that it is more an investment in the long term to use the right hardware than to end up (as we both seem to have/do) selling off some items we bought rather than holding on and using on an as-need basis. I think in your shoes, I would keep the drive and get the enclosure. It will serve well as a very stable and useful long term external.

I think my next round of Mac will be the upcoming Mini (when ever that is) and pop an 840 Pro in it. If Firmtek would consider a 3.5 enclosure with the same chipset/guts, I would jump on that as well for an external and perhaps put in a 1 tb raptor drive.
