I was burning some CDs in Itunes using an external USB DVD writer today. Went to reboot after updates and system ended up stuck and requiring a power off.

After booting back up, the DVD writer is no longer recognized.

System Profiler does not show a device

Ran a permissions repair

iTunes still shows a device available when I go to burn a playlist

Inserting a disc has no response from OS

I feel like somewhere it's "stuck" thinking there is a device that's not there, so it wont detect it again. Is there a way to force detection of hardware again and wipe out devices it cant directly query or something similar.

Also flashed PRAM and tried multiple drives

Or any other ideas?
