I thought I'd run a quick speed test using the Blackmagic Disk Speed test app and an external SATA SSD within an OWC drive case I have lying around. What I've found is odd and not what I expected.

Mid-2012 MBP 15"
USB3 to USB micro B
W388MB/s | R348MB/s

2016 MBP 15"
Apple USB-C to USB-A adapter, to same cable as above
W348MB/s | R308MB/s
Nonda USBC to USB-A adapter, to same cable as above
Same speed

Anyone else noticing this difference? I'm getting faster throughput from my 2012 MBP that has native USB3 than through either of the USB-C to USB3 adapters. I was expecting some difference but I wasn't expecting it to be this large, 10+% slower. I don't have a USB-C to USB-3 micro B cable lying around, only the two adapters.

I will try again with a different SSD when I more time. I'm also not used to see faster write speed than read speed, so maybe there's something odd about this SSD, but the above measurements are consistent in that regard.
