Extra phones available for walk-in that are separate from reserved stock?

that's a long subject line but i hope it makes sense.

i see different ways to try and reserve a phone for pick up.

do the apple stores have additional stock available for first-come, first-served walk in purchases that don't show up on istocknow.com, etc.?
 
When I got the 6 you had to reserve them online then go wait in line at the store to pick it up, not sure this time around.
