Extracting audio in iMovie 06 is SLOW

I used to be able to extract the audio from a 1 minute clip in iMove in less than 20 seconds. Now it takes 12 minutes to extract audio from any length of clip, whether it be 5 seconds long or 1 minute long. Any ideas?
