Specifically, XP. It has never done this before to my knowledge, and does so only from the built-in speakers. I checked it with a dB meter, and it was 93 dB, A weighted at about 3 feet. Yes, that is damn loud.
The odd part: muting the software volume control makes it go away.
AFAIK, it has never done this, and It has been used in boot camp a fair bit, though with the optical audio out more often than not - still a fair bit with the onboard speakers.
This doesn't seem to be the same issue with the 2006 MBP's whining/squealing in boot camp, as far as I can tell.
Anyone else experience anything like this? I'd rather not hook it up to external speakers while the possibility of damage-causing tones is still there.
Edit: muting the mic playback seems to kill it..... why was that enabled (I sure as heck didn't do that!)
