I've got a Synology DS216j 2 disk NAS which is about 5 years old.
It is all up to date with the latest DSM version available for it.
Up until recently it was used with a Windows machine and no issues with it at all.
I started using a MacBook Pro M1 Pro about 5 months ago and have serious ongoing issues with the performance on the NAS.
Copying files to it and general read requests are extremely slow and even sometimes just fail.
I've looked at various articles regarding SMB settings and cannot see anything wrong with the NAS itself.
I can see the SMB3 connection from the MacBook listed, but one thing I have noticed, if I disconnect that SMB3 connection on the NAS and force a new one to spawn, SOMETIMES the performance improves for a bit.
I also have a Windows 11 VM on the MacBook, and if I use that with the NAS it works perfectly and I get the same kind of performance I previously had on a physical Windows machine.
It has in fact got to the point where I use the VM if I need to copy files to or from the NAS, which isn't ideal to say the least.
Any ideas please?
