It takes 4-5 MINUTES PER PAGE to print any pdf document. Other documents like Word or Excel print normally fast.

This began within the last week or so. Its not the printer (HP 3055, networked) because I have a PC that prints the same PDF just fine on the same printer (normal speed - pages just shoot out one after the other.) Uses same network connection as the Mac.

I have a Macbook with all OS 10.5 (v. Mac OS X 10.5.7 (9J61)) updates applied.

My best guess is a recent upgrade of HP printer drivers from Apple via Software Update... (2 of them within the last week or so). I have not seen any other complaints on the web (googled: mac +pdf +slow).

I tried re-installing latest HP software from HP web.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Actually, I have now found that some pdfs print normal (fast) speed and some don't.

My realtor sent me documents via MongoFax (which converts scanned docs into pdfs) they always print slow. My attorney sent me pdfs of Word documents that print SLOW. I have some miscellaneous pdfs that print fast, but troublesome pdfs still print slow.

Thanks.

The slow ones are probably just PDF containers wrapped around a large bit-map (pixel-by-pixel image, rather than something like text). If your printer does not have enough memory to take it all in one go, or you are connected by a slow connection like USB1, then this is exactly what you would expect. You can make sure that the amount of memory in your printer is accurately selected in the printer setup on your computer, or add more memory to the printer (if that is an option).
