Hey guys, first post in this forum so please tell me if this has already been answered.

I have a mid 2012 macbook pro 15", stock parts except for a 16gb ram upgrade i did on it, and ever since I bought it new its had these same problem.

When my macbook has been sleeping or when my macbook runs out of battery and turns off, and i recharge it and start it up, the macbook turns on to the user login screen but i cant use the trackwheel or keyboard for about 5 minutes until it fully "wakes up" and then i can (even if its full battery). I was wondering if this was normal or if i needed to reset some settings or something to make it more instant.

Also, if i shut the macbook down or restart it, it takes forever to turn off, its so bad sometimes i just have to manually do it with the power button because i don't want to wait 10 minutes for it to do so.

Are these problems fixable or widely known? Thanks.

OP:

Do you have the same problems if you DO NOT "let it run out of battery power"?

I'd be careful about letting the power run down.

Something to try the next time this happens, and it won't "wake up":
1. Press and hold the power-on button for about 5 seconds until it shuts off
2. Wait a few seconds, and press the power on button again to boot back up
3. IMMEDIATELY hold down the shift key and keep holding it down. This will "safe boot" it without 3rd-party extensions, etc.
4. Can you get to the login screen easily?
5. Once logged in, does it get to the finder without trouble?

WHY I asked you to try this:
If a safe boot "boots it right up", then it looks like there is something "in your account" (extension, something the OS is trying to do between the time you press return at login and the time the finder opens) that is messing things up.

Could it be having trouble connecting to a "cloud account" of some sort?
Could it be having trouble connecting to your wifi?
