Anybody know if you have to buy extra software to run this recently-made-compatible usb 2.0 tuner. Apple store suggests its plug and play but terratec website says "now works with Eye TV" software which is $79....

hello

i recently phoned the terratec support line with exactly this question, as i had seen the t2 hardware for €85 whilst on holiday in germany.

if you buy it from a pc retailer such as pc world it will not have eye-tv software with it, (although apparently there is some free software that allows you to use it on the mac) and will need to purchase it separately.

if you buy it from apple, eyetv software is included, reflected by the eu price of €149 on apple store. £99 on british store.

mine is being delivered tomorrow, so in any case, i'll let you know...

You need the software and the license key that comes with the software. The device and it's performance have been discussed extensively in this thread: Eye TV for DTV Thread

I've got both this device and the older Elgate EyeTv 410 (on different Macs). Both are pretty good. I did notice that you don't need a license key on the 410, I assume that the EyeTV software can tell when Elgatos own hardware is plugged in.
