According to the Elgato FAQs:

Q: Does EyeTV 300 work in Europe and Australia?

A: Yes. There is no North American version available at the moment.

However, I emailed support and got the following response:

Yes, the e300 will work in North America with International Free-To-Air satellite programming. We do not receive many requests for this, thus my assumptions when answering your question. We officially do not support North America, but the e300 will work; thus it is only something that we would recommend for advanced users that know a bit about Macs and Sattelite services. We certainly can't guarentee success if you do run into problems with any encrypted services. Should you be interested in something like this, we would have to import an e300 from Germany in order to sell which would take a bit extra time. But we would be willing to do so.

Specifically, the EyeTV 300 and 310 will not be able to receive Dish Network programming or any other encrypted satellite channels. There are still quite a few Free-To-Air international and domestic broadcasts available.
