Hi everybody,

I knows this sounds like an irrational connection, but after upgrading to Snow Leopard, eyeTV has a MUCH worse channel reception here. Nothing else in the setting changed and it's for many days now so that a temporary reception change because of weather etc. can't be the problem. It's that bad that most of the channels don't even get enough signal anymore to create a picture. (But, as described, it's not a total failout which would be much easier to hunt down, I guess.) I also tried the new eyeTV beta (and de- and reinstalled the program again), but nothing changed. It seems as if I am the only person in the whole wide world who experiences this DRAMATIC change in signal reception just because of Snow Leopard or is anybody else out there?? No real help in the official eyeTV forum except of a guy who has similar problems with his HD channels (mine are NOT HD) and explains this with the changed way Snow Leopard distributes USB bandwith. I don't really understand this, but this probably isn't MY problem, as I unplugged all other USB devices with the same results ... Again: If there's anybody else out there, please let me know. Thanks.

If you have already upgraded to Snow Leopard, and are not able to launch EyeTV in order to update, then you can try these steps:

1) Unplug your EyeTV hardware from your Mac.
2) Find your EyeTV application on your hard drive - it may be in the Applications folder.
3) While pressing the Control key on your keyboard, click on the EyeTV application, and select "Show Package Contents".
4) Open the Contents folder.
5) Open the MacOS folder.
6) Double-click on the special "EyeTV" icon in the MacOS folder.
7) After EyeTV launches, use the Check For Updates command from the EyeTV menu.
8) Update to the latest available version.

Hi OttawaGuy,

thanks for your answer, but I think this adresses a totally different problem. I am on the newest version of eyeTV and it opens just fine. All functions are fine, it's just the signal strength problem. The instructions you gave are probably for eyeTV user who didn't already updated to a SL compatible version and now can't open eyeTV anymore to update. Thanks anyway ...

Lars,

Have you had any luck yet? I get no signal at all, and have the latest beta version of EyeTV installed. The day before I installed Snow Leopard, I had 100% signal strength & 100% signal quality, and a perfect picture. Immediately after upgrading to Snow Leopard, I had 100% signal strength and 0% signal quality and no picture at all.

I've posted questions here, in the Apple forum, and in the Elgato forum, but have gotten no responses at all.

Jo

Hi JoMomma,

no luck here - still the same, also with 10.6.1. As nobody else seems to have this problem, we can only hope that the signal somehow will come back with a new version of eyeTV. It sucks ... :(

Lars,

I gave up and reinstalled Leopard this afternoon. EyeTV with my Pinnacle TV tuner card now works again. Perfectly. The only difference was Snow Leopard.

Jo

That sucks ... Not that it works again for you, of course, but that Snow Leopard breaks the signal strength and there's no solution. I don't want to downgrade to Snow Leopard and really hope that either an EyeTV or Snow Leopard update will somehow fix this even if the developers didn't really knew about this problem ...

I ended up having to reinstall the software, and it worked fine after that.

Aside from just getting slightly grainy channels anyway (is there any way to clean this up, or is it just how the standard cable connection is?)

Hi GoKyu,

did you re-install EyeTV or Snow Leopard? I tried the first thing, but no change. Also, did your picture disappear completely or was your signal only weaker? Thanks!

EDIT: You seem to use cable connection, right? (I use DVB-T) Your problem probably was different than mine, but I am glad it works again for you!

my eyeTV wont even work!!

You can't use this version of the application EyeTV with this version of Mac*OS*X.

You have EyeTV 3.0.3 (3993).

ill try and reinstall ....

Hi smickle,

download the newest official version of EyeTV - or even the current beta - and it will work again under Snow Leopard.

same problem

Hi All. I have exactly the same problem. Weak signal and doesn't work most of the time with everything else not changed as soon as I updated to snow.... Yes I have upgraded to the Beta version with no improvement. Thanks to the person who suggested Snow handles USB differently. I had the TV stick on its own USB port, and removing all other devices from the other has fixed the problem. If I now plug the usb stick into my 4 port hub with my other devices (leaving my macbook pro's other USB port unpopulated it now works perfectly again.
Thanks so much for this tip. :)

I have a 27" iMac running OS X 10.6.1 and a EyeTV Hybrid with 3.2.1 software. When I stilled in out of the box everything worked perfectly for about 3 days, then it just stopped working. No signal. I get an error message "EyeTV was unable to change channels. Please make sure your device is correctly plugged in and working." I checked and double checked. I have signal in the coax as it goes into the EyeTV Hybrid. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with not fix. So I take it back to the retailer and exchange for a new unit. Reinstall the new unit and software and everything works perfect again, for a couple days. Now no signal again and getting the same error message. Are these units going bad? Shouldn't they last more then a few days? Is there something that could be making them go out?

Another one..

Hi there just found this thread through a google search... I see it is a bit old now, but i still want to join the chorus..

I've got the same problem... And I bough my Elgato DTT deluxe just yesterday. It worked perfectly under Snow leopard for a couple of hours, but then after restarting my computer the 'good signal strength 0% signal quality' problem emerged. It shows me what's on - but no sound or picture.. It looks like a general problem...

Anyone found a solution?

I am having the same problem. On my 2nd Eye TV Hybrid. Worked for a couple weeks, now no signal, won't let me rescan channels. Eye Tv customer support is slow but they do eventually get back to you. Any ideas appreciated.

Eye tv works then doesn't

Yup same problem here. Worked perfectly for 2 hours on 3.5.4 then crashed and now zero signal quality, got new stick reinstalled software, was also working on both lion and snow leopard computers but now same problem on both.
Anyone have any results from their problems?
