Did a little google-fu but came up blank. I just reinstalled Leopard (clean install) and pressing the F keys (brightness, etc) with or without the FN key pressed just doesn't do anything. Some of them do things, but the wrong things, for example volume brings up Expose.

How can I fix this?

I hate it when help topics get resolved without an answer but I'm afraid this one will end in a similar fashion. I installed every available update and one of them did it, but I couldn't tell you which it was.

Have you looked under Keyboard & Mouse in the System preferences? There are options on how to handle the fn key and what each F# key is supposed to do. Have you tried restoring the defaults?

Edit: rather did you try restoring the defaults?

Do you by chance have a foreign keyboard? Exposé is F9-F11 on my keyboard (although I'm not certain that is their default function) and F3 has always been mute/unmute and is labeled as such.
