Well somehow i managed to switch the function of the F1-F12 keys around by accident and i don't know how to change it back. Can someone help me figure out how to change it back to the original settings? Thanks.

Check your System Preferences for the Keyboard.
Press command + spacebar to use spotlight and type keyboard, then you get select System Preferences : Keyboard & Mouse, and the check on the settings your Mac has.

I'm not sure if I understand the OP, but if you're talking about whether you need to press "fn" for the special features printed on function keys such as volumes, then go to System Preference -> Keyboard & Mouse, choose the Keyboard tab, and check/uncheck "Use all F1, F2,etc. keys as standard function keys."
