F1 - F5 ceased to work - Powerbook

This thread is semi related to another I just posted about front row, but anyway.. I tried to install front row the 1.31 with pacifist, and around that time I can no longer use F1 through F5 (F1 and F2 adjust screen brightness, the rest are volume). I can still adjust these functions through system preferences, but it's nice to have these keys working. I already repaired permissions and double checked keyboard prefs. Can I delete the keyboard pref file somewhere so it resets? I made another account, to see if it was the same, and it was, still broken. I also booted in safe mode and still couldn't adjust. I'd appreciate any help/info you have. Thanks.

Some thing like this happened on my eMac, and I reinstalled tiger which eliminated the problem. I have limited HD space and don't want to reinstall, is there any other way?
