I want to play a game that tells me that i have to press f3 to access a feature, however i have no idea how to do that on my macbook pro. Can anyone help me?

Either hold down the "Fn" key while pressing the F3 key (with which you seem to have problems with) or go to System Preferences > Keyboard >> Keyboard Shortcuts >>> "Use function keys (F1, F2, ...) ... ".
