I was provided a review sample of the FabX Maxx strap case for the iPhone 4/4S. I have taken the time to use the case in the wild to see what it has to offer.
The primary difference between Maxx and other cases on the market today is that it features an elastic band that FabX describes as a "multifunctional strap system." They have designed the strap to accommodate various purposes that one may need while using their iPhone. One of the more obvious uses of the strap is to essentially couple the phone to your hand to prevent accidental drops by having the strap fairly tight over your hand. I find that this is convenient for me when I'm walking about while looking at the phone. The tension that keeps the phone on your hand is not uncomfortable.
On the bottom of the strap is a clip that covers the 30-pin accessory port and protects it with a rubber guard. The clip wraps from the back of the phone to the front to provide secure placement. When the clip is in place, the strap is held tense, so it is not loosely hanging but rather can hold things in place such as a credit card. You can also use the strap to secure the phone to an object such as a bike handle or a treadmill grip. I once strapped my phone to my steering wheel to make a FaceTime call (I don't recommend this).
The sides of the case have a rubberized grip that serves as a shock-absorbing edge and as a guard to prevent credit cards from slipping out. The grip helps absorb some impact in the unlikely event that the phone does fall. It adds a little thickness to the feel of the case, but it doesn't go as far as to make it feel like a silicone case. The overall build of the case is lightweight because the primary feature is the strap, so the plastic housing is minimalist.
I recommend the case to anyone who would like additional security against dropping their phone during use. FabX has recently posted a video highlighting some of the uses of the case on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjZ0y_F0h4s
The FabX Maxx is available in opaque and translucent colors for $29.99 at http://www.shopfabx.com.
