Hi folks,

Came from 8Plus to Xs - new with Face ID. Thus far, this has been a superb experience. I have been clearing my old phones for sale and now the bezels including the home button feel ancient and un intuitive.

I want to get everyones thoughts and experience with Face ID. I have my phone pretty close to me while working and face id does not detect unless u bend and lean over and look right at the device "from up top". The detection angle seems weak...what is everyones experience on this.

This seems to be the only negative I am experiencing with this phone, and one other part is Xs Max seems to have a better speaker sound output than the X.

New Face ID user here too, coming from an 8+.

Unless someone corrects me, seems to me that you need to be looking at it pretty much dead on.

My thoughts too, I can only picture Tim C's plans. I bet next years phone will come with a revolutionary wide angle Face ID array and usb c etc. I guess my frustration is not with Apple specifically as it has been every brand from Cars to tech that are holding out on implementation in order to "announce" new advances annually.

Seems to be a blind spot when its laying flat, otherwise its been ok in hand or on angle.

I leave the phone laying on my desk and pay attention to notifications on my Apple Watch.

99% of the time I want to do something specific on my phone, I’m going to pick it up anyway.

It was convenient to finger unlock though - but I find myself using MacBook and watch as well.

I’m coming from an 8 plus as well. It’s been great.

You can change the settings for Face ID so that it doesn’t require that you’re looking directly at it by going to Settings > General > Accessibility > Face ID and Attention. From there you can switch off Require Attention for Face ID.

Oh thats cool! still acts same when on table or flat. But this is interesting option, im going to see how this works for me.

Have the X since last November. The angles have increased over time. It definitely works now the way the ad was shown with the lady leaning up to it coming out of the pool.

Side angles have improved too.

I find it much more reliable then my touch id was.

Opening apps in place of filling in passwords has been great. Almost instantaneous.
