Well the title pretty much says it. I tried for about 2 hours to activate my iPhone on att. It finally went through and activated, now Face ID does not work at all. I ran the setup which says successful 4 times and nothing. It just plain doesn’t work. I can go into the Animoji message thing and it does pick up my facial expressions. This is pretty sad as I have no clue what to do. I guess a long hold time to try and talk to Apple or go to the store which will also be a nightmare.

Sounds like an isolated issue, speak with Apple seems the way forward. Mines been flawless so far, picks me up even when the phone is flat on the table and I’m sat slightly back.

I’m having same issue with Verizon iPhone X. Did setup, etc. However, mine isn’t working while it’s trying to download the 11.1 update. So I’m not going to panic until after it’s done with the backup/download, etc. Face ID setup went just fine....but now I have manually use my unlock code to get into the phone.

Yeah I’ve tried every angle. I also setup against a pure white background with no luck.

Animoji only uses some of the function of Face ID, so it’s not crazy that it would work but not Face ID itself.

Call Apple or go to the Apple Store. You have a lemon.

I’d be so annoyed, so I get your frustration, but it’s clearly not the norm, so Apple will take care of you.

so the phone is awake when you’re trying it?
you see the lock icon but it won’t switch to the unlocked icon?

(just for clarity sake)

Ok so I attempted to update the phone just as a last resort before calling Apple. It was asking for 11.1 so it updated and now it works. Hopefully all is well and others have the same luck if they are experiencing this issue.

Yes, I see the lock icon at top, says “Face ID” in middle of screen, but nothing happens. I have to swipe up, enter my unlock code, then it’s back at downloading iOS 11.1

I guess you can use the Touch ID first instead, oh wait there is not one.

Hopefully restoring will solved the issue. From the drop test video everythingapplepro posted, it looks like a drop and shake can damage the faceID feature, I hope whoever delivers it didn't drop your phone. On the other hand, I hope the faceID is more durable than that, especially that's the only unlocking method besides passcode.

No mine sucks too!! You have to hold your phone a particular way to get it to recognize you where with Touch ID, I can go about my business without saying “WAIT...give me a minute...I have to hack into my phone....” only for it fail to recognize me.....I HATE IT!!

Might want to have Apple check out your phone as it FaceID should work flawlessly. I forget what it is doing because it works so well. Could be a hardware issue. Updating should have not made a difference.

It’s an old post from beginning of November.
Stale post gods gotcha. It’s so boring on cold January day, even I am responding to moldy old post. LOL at myself.
[doublepost=1548508567][/doublepost]Actually title quite misleading. Shouldn’t it say “Face ID doesn’t work on my phone”.
