Is anyone else having this issue? Face ID worked fine on my new iPhone 13 pro max for the first few days, then it started having intermittent issues and now it does not work at all. If I try to reset it or add an alternate appearance I get a message saying “Face ID is not currently available”

I had this exact issue last year when I got my 12 Pro Max.

Unfortunately, your phone is borked. I went to the Apple Store, they ran some test(s) and confirmed it's a hardware error. They replaced my phone on the spot.

You need to go get it replaced at a store or initiate an express replacement through support. FaceID shouldn't give you that notification unless something is not working properly

I was hoping it was a software issue. It's strange because now it's suddenly working fine... No idea what changed and how long until it starts failing again...

Update: Went in to an apple store and they confirmed that the Face ID sensor was faulty. Got it replaced and all is good now.

I find it interesting though, as this is the second time in a row I've received a launch day iPhone with a hardware defect. Last year when I got my iPhone 12 Pro Max, the lightning port did not work at all (for charging or data transfer).

Has anyone else seen an increase in launch day hardware defects, or am I just very unlucky?

Just had this happen out of nowhere. Contacted Apple support and was told my 2 options are to take the phone in to be looked at or mail it to apple and be without a phone. Brand new phone and they expect me to be without it. Sure apple. Starting to lose faith in a lot of companies lately. Hate that Apple is on that list.
