When traveling I use one of those small vent mounts that clips onto your dashboard vent over one of the louvers.

In that orientation, the mount and iPhone is pointing directly towards the back of the car, it isn't angled towards the driver.

Anyone with the iPhone X put their phone in a vent mount and use it for GPS? And if so, does FID recognize you from that oft-angle and unlock when needed? Or do you have to lean over the center console until it picks up your face?

Thanks.

Nope. I already drive with a gangsta lean.

["In Da Club" now stuck and playing over and over in my head]

Have you actually tested an iPhone X in a car mount pointed directly towards the rear window though?

No issue here. Recognizes face from sharp angles and pretty far distance.

That's great news.

Just to confirm...you tested this with the vent mount and iPhone X pointed directly at the rear window and not skewed towards the drivers seat. Yes?

Thanks, appreciate it.

It looks like her iPhone mount is tilted towards the drivers seat where most vent mounts don’t. And when she shows it unlocking she is between her front two seats looking at the camera. So it’s inconclusive unfortunately.

I use a cd slot mount with a gimbal joint. It’s usually pointed directly at my face. A tap to wake the screen and Face ID unlocks it for me immediately.
