All of a sudden out of the blue today, face ID is no longer working on my lock screen. I'm on ios 16.1 (been there since it was released) with iphone 14 and it had worked until today.
It works when opening the apps that require it but only if I hold the phone up at a specific distance and angle.
I've tried rebooting and turning some of the settings off and back on but nothing seems to make any difference.

Anyone else having this problem?

Mine hasn't worked since the first beta of 16, even tried resetting - seems to be a huge issue based on a quick Google search

My wife and I just upgraded from ancient iPhone 7Pluses to 14 Pro Max in mid November. We both configured Face ID and everything worked just fine. A few days ago, Face ID on my wife's phone stopped working. She did a "reset Face ID", and the problem is, the front camera doesn't recognize when her face is in the "square", it never gets to the point of having her 'move your face in a circle...'. She rebooted the phone - still doesn't work. We even updated from iOS 16.1 to 16.1.2..... still doesn't work. I'm hoping it isn't a hardware issue, as we didn't purchase Apple Care or any other protection/service/warranty plan. I will try calling our mobile provider, whom we bought the phones through, to see if they may have any suggestions, or it maybe, since we just received the phones on November 22nd, they might still be under any sort of warranty coverage.

Try cleaning the camera area of the iPhone? I find sometimes Face-ID stops working but cleaning the phone makes it work again.

No need to worry, you should still be covered by the built-in 1 year Apple warranty until next November.
