Facebook app iPhone contact syncing - when does it actually happen?

I know the official Facebook app supports contact photo syncing and I activated it and it did its initial sync. Now, when will it sync again? launching the Facebook app and going to the same place doesn't seem to resync and update the photos. I set the option for it to sync automatically or whatever.

Mine seems to update constantly. The pics I see when people call me are always their current profile pic.

Good question. I have yet to be able to make it sync automatically. It always requires me to Remove Data then manually sync.
