Carrier Facebook keeps tabs on your wireless/mobile carrier?

I’m not a paranoid privacy person, however, FB tracing my number to my carrier and keeping tabs on that is a bit freaky. (Yes, I did change mobile providers.)

Is that type of change a big, obvious, etc, security breach avenue?
